1st post of a long yarn

1st post just to get things rolling

Hey there

GenX gal in Northern California

This blog is where I will park some of my yarn journey. It started in the mid 70's when I felt the need to learn how to crochet. I'd enjoyed making lanyards and other crafts, but something about crochet strongly attracted me. Bought a cheap kit from Thrifty's & taught myself. 1st big challenge was having to reverse pattern instructions & illustrations in my mind because I'm left handed.

Life happened. Lots of drama. Mid 80's, I was loitering in the Woolworth's basement on Market/Powell St in San Francisco - they kept the birds, fishes & rodents down there...I ran across a bin of acrylic yarn mill ends sold by the pound...and that old connection came back to life. I made several hats & then lugged my stash with me through numerous moves. Housing became stable after moving out of San Francisco and up to Lake County (It's NE from Sonoma & Napa Cos).

More time and some drama slipped by.

By 2017, after 2 years of back-to-back firestorms in and around Lake Co & NorCal region, my nerves were shot. No "one last nerve" left to cling to. For some other reason, I was rooting around in my crusty musty collection of junk in the garage & came across my old yarn stash. The flame was lit again & this time it was very intense. Started fiddling around & hoovering up tons of free patterns & ideas. I was still using FaceBook back then so I hooked up with some crocheters there. Found a group in Sonoma County that was well organized & gifting items to fire survivors of the 2017 Tubbs Fire. We kept going - Carr Fire (Shasta Co) Camp Fire (Butte Co) & so on. Just with FB, google docs, and dedication, they delivered 100's of bespoke items as requested - color, size, etc!
